What does life saving look like at a local shelter?

By its nature, housing many animals in a facility increases the likelihood of the spread of infectious disease. The conventional animal shelter wisdom has been that it's best for the shelter if all the exposed (or potentially exposed) animals be destroyed to prevent spread to any more animals. Some, however, question whether or not killing creatures which may not even be ill can be described as "humane".

Nathan Winograd conference energizes and informs

The weekend of May 3-4, Nathan Winograd, the nationally recognized architect of the No Kill Equation presented to a packed house. Attendees came from all around Indiana and the midwest, but ranging out to TX, MN, and NV. His lectures followed much materia from his book "Redemption" and included background on how killing of sheltered animals became the norm in this country, even being conducted by organizations with names that include the words "humane" or "prevention of cruelty."
